 Class Description:
This course is designed for both entry-level and intermediate students. Professor Cynthia Becerra will cover the following specialized English topics: word usage, spelling, and compound words as they apply to the reporting profession.

Seminar III Learning Outcomes

  • Attendees will be able to apply the common rules of spelling.
  • Attendees will be able to master the correct use of commonly confused words.
  • Attendees will be able to use and punctuate compound modifiers correctly.
  • Attendees will be able to apply common rules for compound nouns and pronouns.

About the Speakers:

Professor Becerra is currently Dean of Undergraduate Studies for Humphreys University and Chair of the Liberal Arts Department. During her first four years of teaching at the University, she taught both court reporting and English courses, including those required for CSR-bound students. A graduate of CSU, Sacramento with a M.A. in English and Literature, she resides in the Linden area along with her husband, who is a cherry farmer and wild life biologist.

 

Stacy Gaskill is a dedicated professional with a wealth of experience in court reporting. Obtaining her CSR in 1995, Stacy has been an official reporter with the San Mateo County Superior Court since 1999. As a member of SEIU Local 521, she has actively contributed to labor management and negotiation efforts for the past 15 years. Additionally, Stacy is currently furthering her skills by attending voice writing classes at West Valley.
