New CCRA President Takes Office And Rolls Up Her Sleeves To Get Things Done!

Langley_Sleeves1.jpgNewly elected CCRA President, Early Langley, during her inaugural presidential address at the CCRA 101st Convention in San Diego, exemplifies the "Spirit of CCRA" by rolling up her sleeves to show her might.

"In California, we court reporters have challenges that have reached the point that we need to stand up and take notice:  We've never faced a budget crisis that has resulted in court closures and layoffs to this degree.   It's going to take an unprecedented effort to continue to fight electronic recording.  In the freelance field, we must continue to fight unethical gift giving and unfair pricing practices," said Langley in her address.

Langley went on to outline three steps that CCRA and the court reporting profession as a whole needed to do:

  1. It's time to be thinking about beyond realtime for our profession.  We must be ready to be the fabric as well as the gold standard to provide the services that our technology allows us to provide to our clients, the courts, law firms, and consumers.  We need to think in terms of services we can provide our clients that make us invaluable:  Repositories for law firms, document retention, search engines, large file transfer of data, skyped proceedings.
  2. It's time to be an active constituent.  Let's talk to our legislators, our assembly members, and our senators.  They want to know what we have to say.  They want our vote.  And because they have term limits, they need to be told what we have to say every two years, and more often than that.  Take one of us along.
  3. Show the "Spirit of CCRA." Start by connecting with and making a good impression on people that matter.
