This bill would provide that the local law enforcement agency having jurisdiction over a defendant currently incarcerated in a county jail may also arrange for specified court appearances of the defendant to be conducted by 2-way electronic audiovideo communication in lieu of the physical presence of the defendant in the courtroom, as specified

Calendar 

This bill would prohibit the employment of any limited-term employee in the trial court for a period exceeding 180 calendar days, except for court reporters under certain conditions. The bill would provide that any limited-term employee employed for more than 180 calendar days is a regular employee, except for those court reporters in a county of the first class where a trial court and a recognized employee organization have provided otherwise by mutual agreement in a memorandum of understanding or other agreement.

Calendar 

This bill would enact the Legislative Captioning Act of 2005, which would provide that, upon appropriation of funds for purposes of the bill in the annual Budget Act, the rules committee of the respective house shall provide closed-captioned and live-captioned broadcasts of the floor sessions and committee meetings of the Senate and Assembly. Under the bill, the Joint Rules Committee would provide closed-captioned and live-captioned broadcasts of a joint committee hearing.

Calendar 

Under existing law, the Joint Committee on Boards, Commissions, and Consumer Protection is required to determine if a public need exists for the continued existence of a board based on specified factors. This bill would require the Joint Committee on Boards to consider as a factor whether the functions of the board, including the Court Reporters' Board, would be accomplished more effectively if the board was replaced by a single executive officer.

This bill would require the deposition officer to put the deponent under oath or affirmation and to personally, or by someone acting under the officer's direction and in his or her presence, record the testimony of the witness. The bill also would require the testimony and any stated objections to be taken stenographically by a certified shorthand reporter.

This bill would provide that a notary public who completes and seals a certificate of acknowledgment with the knowledge that a person whose name is subscribed to the instrument that is being acknowledged as having executed the instrument in the presence of the notary public did not, in fact, personally appear before the notary public at the time of the execution of the instrument, is guilty of a felony.
