Headline from the Court Reporters Board meeting: CRB to CCRA, "YOU'VE GIVEN US OUR HOMEWORK!" On Friday, April 27th, CCRA President Early Langley appeared in front of the Court Reporters Board and challenged their recent article entitled, "The Pitfalls of Privatizing Court Reporters."  Demanding a legal opinion to back up their statement that a privately-hired court reporter is considered a pro tempore and that statutory rates would apply, she cited three conflicting codes: 70044, 68086(a)(5)(B) and California Rule of Court 2.956.  President Langley questioned the CRB's policy as to whether the regulatory agency would cite freelancers and/or agencies in future citations.  The CRB asked CCRA for a question to elicit a legal opinion from them.  Stay tuned for future developments as CCRA LEADS THE WAY to work closely with the CRB's Executive Director Yvonne Fenner.  For a list of issues presented by President Langley, click here.

Los Angeles
Flying down to Los Angeles on Saturday, April 28th, CCRA's Early Langley visited the Los Angeles County Court Reporters Association, California's largest association of county court reporters and affiliate of CCRA.  She joined LACCRA President Julie Granger, along with CCRA's Carolyn Dasher and Lesia Mervin, in speaking to an over-capacity crowd of association members.  President Langley fielded questions about the CRB's recent "Pitfalls" statement; Carolyn Dasher reported on CCRA's progress on legislative bills; and Lesia Mervin updated the audience on word count and statewide county trends.
