The California Budget and Court Reporters

Make a Special Fund DonationIt is January 2010 and the California Budget proposed by Governor Schwarzenegger has been put forth to the legislature.  The Governor and Budget were silent with regard to implementing Electronic or Digital recording in our California Courts.  Perhaps the Governor has gotten the message from the legislature that quality of the judicial record is a standard that California litigants demand.  Until the May revise, which is compiled after more financial information and recommendations are available, we won’t know how the California Budget will affect the CSRs statewide.

CCRA employs a lobbying firm which employs a knowledgeable lobbyist who is at the State Capitol daily working on your behalf.  Your leaders attend meetings in Sacramento to protect your profession and educate top leaders on how the judicial system functions.

Make a PACCRA DonationThe 58 Court Counties around the state control the funds they receive.  The Judicial Council voted to continue court closures until the end of the fiscal year, June 2010.  Courts statewide are seeing layoffs.  Los Angles will see over 600 layoffs before the end of the year if no new funds come to our courts.

Now is the time for us to work together.  If more Officials flood the marketplace, the Freelance will be affected.  The CSRs in the state need to step forward, work together, and educate the key legislators in our beautiful state.  Imagine what we could accomplish if we all worked together and helped educate the key people.

Make a DOnationCCRA is always informed, always ready, always working for you.  The ER/DR Task Force is in place and ready to move at a moment’s notice.  We will keep you updated with e-blasts and e-alerts.

What can you do?  Make sure your membership is updated.  Make sure we have your updated e-mail address and contact information.  Attend the CATT training February 27-28 in San Diego.  Encourage others to be members of CCRA.  Contact by e-mail the CCRA office to inform them of procedural changes in your county or firm.
